The oval is built and maintained using an Zamboni and other equipment. It takes approximately 2 weeks to prepare the skating oval, depending on temperature and weather conditions. This includes packing and leveling the granular track surface and banking snow to hold water. To begin building ice, outdoor temperatures must be below -5 Celsius for multiple consecutive days. A minimum of 2 inches of ice thickness is required for the entire skating surface in order to be safely opened.
