Doug Ford Stays The Course & Extends Sudbury Lockdown For Another Week

Doug Ford is certainly taking a cautious approach when it comes to opening up Greater Sudbury. The Premier of Ontario announced today that the extended lockdown and stay-at-home order will continue until February 16th, 2021.

This extension is certainly a cautious approach as Greater Sudbury has confirmed cases of the UK variant and an outbreak at Health Science North. However, in a message to Ontario, Doug Ford thanked everyone that has followed the public health measures.

This message was also echoed by Greater Sudbury Mayor, Brian Bigger. In a tweet to constituents the mayor appeared to reiterate what the 26th Premier of Ontario had to say. The tweet began with the message that we decide our own path forward.

In some brighter news, the Public Health Sudbury & Districts informed the public today that we have seen another 11 resolved cases. Unfortunately though Greater Sudbury did see an additional 5 new cases. This brings our total active cases down to 41.

Health Sciences North is also seeing 9 hospitalized confirmed cases of the coronavirus and out of these cases 3 are listed as in the ICU. This number is up from February 6th, 2021 where the hospital had 5 active cases with 2 of them in the ICU.
