Councillor Robert Kirwan put out the call to his Facebook Group asking people to follow their ward councillor as much as possible. We couldn’t agree more with the Ward 5 Greater Sudbury City Councillor.
Robert Kirwan has been a city councillor over in Ward 5 since 2014. Since that time he has been very vocal about certain issues that certainly ruffled the progressives feathers. One of the most transformational issues Councillor Kirwan has supported is the development of the Kingsway Entertainment District or the KED for short.
The Kingsway Entertainment District’s very vocal opposition have been a thorn in some of the councillor’s side since the project was pitched to council. The people opposed to the massive project have ruthlessly and relentlessly attacked Kirwan on this issue. Even some of the sitting City Councillors are against it and have been extremely vocal on trying to shut this project down.
This isn’t the only thing that has ruffled the feathers of Robert Kirwan’s political foes. Kirwan’s ability to connect directly with his constituents is unlike anything ever seen before in Greater Sudbury Municipal Politics. Kirwan, who owns a media company, has been able to cut straight through a sometimes hostile Sudbury Media and go straight to the people by his huge online platform.
In case you didn’t know, the platform is his powerful Facebook Group. Councillor Kirwan has a facebook group that is very impressive with over 17,000 members and counting. The group consists of thousands of his wards residents along with countless members of the Greater Sudbury community.
The ability for him to cut the media out directly has been a savour to the many causes he’s championing throughout his Valley East ward and the City of Greater Sudbury in general.
So what does this all have to do with getting to know your municipal city councillor? Well, Robert Kirwan suggested on his massive Facebook Group that as a resident you should follow your city councillor as much as possible.
In his post Councillor Kirwan also outlines the work he has done in the community. He also posted a picture outlining all the ward boundaries and there respective Municipal Councillors.

This Facebook Group by Robert Kirwan would certainly give him a huge advantage over some other City Councillors if he decided to run for Mayor of Greater Sudbury in the future.
